llms.txt generator.
This free llms.txt generator drafts the file for you. Enter your website and it reads your home page, your navigation and your sitemap, then writes an llms.txt in the format proposed at llmstxt.org: your name as the title, a one-line summary, and your key pages as links grouped under headings. Edit anything, check it against the format, then copy it or download it and upload it to the root of your site. You can also fill it in by hand without entering a URL.
We read your home page, navigation and sitemap. About 5 to 20 seconds.
One link per line: URL | title | note. The title and note are optional.
What llms.txt is, and what it is not
llms.txt is a Markdown file at the root of a website, proposed in September 2024 at llmstxt.org, that gives a language model a short summary of the site and links to the pages worth reading. The format: one H1 with the site's name, a short summary in a blockquote, optional plain paragraphs, then H2 sections that list links as - [title](url): note. A section called "Optional" holds links that can be skipped.
It is a proposal, not a standard. No major AI assistant has published that it reads llms.txt when it answers a question, and it is not a ranking factor in Google Search. It takes ten minutes to publish and some tools do read it, so it is worth having; it will not on its own get your business named by ChatGPT. Our own file is at 8ight.ai/llms.txt, and there is a longer explanation in llms.txt, explained.
Questions, answered
What is llms.txt?
A plain-text Markdown file at the root of a website (yoursite.com/llms.txt) that gives language models a short summary of the site and links to its most useful pages. It was proposed by Jeremy Howard in September 2024; the format is described at llmstxt.org.
Do ChatGPT, Claude or Google read llms.txt?
No major AI assistant has published that it reads llms.txt when it answers a question, and it is not a ranking factor in Google Search. It is a proposal, not a standard. It costs little to publish, and some tools, such as coding assistants and documentation tools, do read it.
Is this llms.txt generator free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no email. If you enter a URL, our server fetches that site's public pages once to draft the file; we do not store the result beyond a short cache.
What does the URL reader look at?
Your home page (its title, description and navigation links), your robots.txt and your XML sitemap, and the titles and descriptions of a handful of your main pages. It does not log in, run scripts or follow links off your domain.
Where do I upload llms.txt?
To the root of your domain, next to robots.txt, so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt. On WordPress, upload it with your host's file manager or by FTP into the folder that holds wp-config.php, or use a plugin that serves it.
What is the Optional section?
In the llms.txt proposal, a section headed "Optional" lists links a model can skip when it needs a shorter context: legal pages, archives, secondary material.
